Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 49th and current vice-president of the United States. She is the first female vice president , and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, as being the first African American and first Asian American vice president. As a part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general of California from 2011 until 2017 and as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then hired by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal and the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She was well-known for her direct questioning of Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
